COLUMBIA- A US Airways flight from Charlotte, N.C., to Charleston made an emergency landing here after the captain reported smoke in the cockpit.

US Airways spokesman David Castelveter said the captain diverted the plane to Columbia on Wednesday morning after noticing a small crack in the windshield and smoke in the cockpit.

The Fokker F-100 landed at Columbia Metropolitan Airport at 11:48. There were 78 passengers and four crew members on board, but no injuries were reported.

Castelveter said US Airways mechanics would inspect the plane to determine whether it could continue to Charleston.
