Michigan: Eight Injured, Three Critically, Following Apparent Explosion at Chemical Plant

Muskegon, MI, United States 4/12/2000- 1:30 PM

The apparent explosion occurred today (4/12/2000) at Lomac Company, located east of Muskegon.

Three of those injured were reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities told people around the plant to stay inside, including children at area schools, but according to The Muskegon Chronicle, it appeared that much of the damage was contained inside the factory.

There were not reports of toxic fumes escaping and no additional fire trucks were dispatched to the scene after the initial response to the blast. But people who live near the plant were told to keep their windows closed as a precaution, according to broadcast reports.

About 150 people work at the plant.

Hmmm! Not even a hint at what might have caused the explosion.
