Plane forced to make emergency landing in ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico Passengers landing in Albuquerque had a scare when their plane was forced to make an emergency landing.

Electrical problems forced an MD-80 to make the landing Tuesday night.

American Airlines flight 1974 was headed to Nashville from Los Angeles when it made an unscheduled landing at the Albuquerque Sunport.

Witnesses say the crew was trying to serve dinner, when the microwaves and cabin lights lost power.

The pilot come on and said there were some electrical problems and thought it was best to come to Albuquerque, said passenger Andy Horvath.

The 55 passengers all remained calm during the landing.

The MD-80 model plane has been under scrutiny lately after the crash of Alaska Airlines flight 261 off the coast of California. Since then, many MD-80s have made emergency landings across the country.
