greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am waiting for a digital camera to do the intraoral job for at least 3 years. Somebody know the better? Nikkon Coolpix 950? or Olympus 2500?? Other??

Thanks in advance

Dr. Garat:

Definately the Nikon (better still the latest CP990 model) - because of its superb close-up/macro abilities. Also what is normally a disadvantage for most photography, may be an advantage for you: the flash on the Nikon CP950 or 990 is very close to the taking lens, which can produce a 'red-eye' effect in photos. I would guess that the proximity of the flash to lens will work to your advantage in intra-oral close-up photography.

My daughter is a dental hygenist and they have a professional, Sony I believe, setup with a camera on the end of a probe that they can stick in your mouth and it can be sterilized. I would think that this is what you would use rather than a standard digital camera, unless this were used just to photgraph someone's smile.
