Title: Delta Plane Blows Tire After Landing at Jackson International Airport; No One Injured

The Associated Press 4/12/00 11:42 AM

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- A Delta Air Lines Inc. passenger jet sustained flat tires today while maneuvering on a ramp after landing at the Jackson International Airport.

Airport officials said the craft, with 5 passengers aboard, was able to taxi safely to the terminal. there were no injuries, the officials said.

"The (two) right main tires went flat when they were turning on to the ramp," said Jerry Keever, an airport spokesman. "There were no injuries and no danger. All the passengers were rebooked."

The tire problems on Flight 287, an MD-80 aircraft with a crew of five, occurred after it landed on a flight from Shreveport at 6:30 a.m., Keever said.

Keever said he was puzzled by rumors the plane had overshot the runway and become stuck in the mud. Rain poured down on Jackson Tuesday and early today.

Keever said the mishap caused some "slight delays" in outbound flights, but nothing else.

the Jackson airport in Rankin County is served by nine airlines. Some 4,000 passengers fly in and out of the facility on 48 flights per day.
