There were three women in particular:Elizabeth Arnold, Poe's mother, Jane Stanard, the mother of a classmate, and Frances Allan, his foster mother. Obviously the death of Poe's mother had an effect on his life. Poe was infatuated with Mrs. Stanard and her death caused him to suffer greatly. He even wrote "To Helen" for her. Frances Allan's death was also hard for Poe, because she had asked for him on her death bed but he was unable to make it until the next day, and he felt very guilty about that. I hope this helps.
