How to compare speeds of CF memory cards

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

The Coolpix 990 comes with an 8x 16MB Lexar JumpShot card. I want to buy a 64 MB card to use with this camera. I have ordered a SanDisk card, but it gives no indication of the speed. How can I tell whether this SanDisk card will perform as fast as the Lexar card, when SanDisk does not rate the speed of their cards?

sandisk doesn't want to advertise the speed of their cards, where they have a competitive disadvantage with lexus. They don't want you buying based on speed.

The lexar stuff is faster, but whether the speed will actually benefit you depends on the camera you buy. It only helps on some operations and not others. The only place I know of with an objective analysis of this stuff is feather canyon news (or is it feather river canyon?)

The SanDisk 128 I purchases is much slower than the Lexar card my Nikon 995 came with. I am going to purchase a Lexar highspeed card. Once you snap a picture it takes too long with the SanDisk to save to the memory.

I thought the delete time was excessive on my Nikon 775 with a 128M card. I ran some tests on Kingston and San Disk 128M. Record times were 6 and 8 seconds respectively for an empty or full card for the same resolution/quality picture. Delete times varied by how full the card was. The Kingston started at 3 seconds and progressed up to 30 when the card was full. The San Disk started at 6 seconds and went up to 60 when full.
