sometimes i get to dreaming

greenspun.com : LUSENET : It's All About Joe 90: The Discussion Board : One Thread

this is long. disjointed. and incoherent. but so am i. so deal. :)

my indy review. i'll start with the drive (cause that's where it all begins for me.) saturday morning. 8am. i'm tired. it's raining. it's a cold, nasty day. i have a 7 hour drive ahead of me. and i am happy... just so completely happy. (i know. i'm sick. but i have no desire to change)

i get to crawfordsville. shower. head over to the campus to see if i can figure out where the concert will be. i find the basketball court. go back to the hotel to wait for chrisnot. bounce around the room. call jenn. bounce around the room some more. chrisnot arrives. yay!!! darrel flocks to us. double yay!!! we head over to the campus. it's very cold. we see jessica (wearing a very pretty dress. but it made me cold to look at her) and brittany sitting on the steps. a car pulls up. adam gets out. he rescues us from the cold. yay adam.

chrisnot and darrel inform me that indiana is on central time. last week it was eastern standard. but they don't do the daylight savings thing. which means we have an hour longer to wait than i thought we did. ugh.

doors open at 7. we get our places right up front. everyone i had talked to at the college said that joe90 would go on at 8. they lied. the show didn't start til 9. the crowd started getting a bit rowdy when no band came on at 8. i was a little worried. i didn't want us to be the only thing standing between joe90 and an angry, drunken mob. (i love them. but i'm not willing to die for them. sorry.) but the crowd never got beyond the grumbling stage. so all was well.

joe90 played about 45 minutes. not sure if i have the order of this right - arrive, reachin, ferris wheel, when i die, truth, drive, road, such is life.

there were big beefy security people between the barricades and the stage. chrisnot didn't like the one in front of us because she couldn't get him to smile. and he didn't want to chat. but i noticed that during joe90's set his hand was tapping against his leg in time with the music. and when we were leaving at the end of the night he asked us about the band and said "they were pretty good."

i was very happy to get to hear reachin' and such is life. i was really, really hoping they'd do those. such is life is beautiful. i want to hear it again. and i'd also like to know the lyrics. reachin sounds great live. fun song. we did the yell during ferris wheel, which always makes me happy. i missed hearing blurred. and gone. have i mentioned lately how much i love arrive? i do.

joe90 sounded great. they looked tired. i'm amazed at how much energy they can put forth with no sleep. there was body surfing. people were drinking. there was some shoving. but nothing more than what you'd get at any general admission show. everyone wanted our spots up front. which made it really difficult to get out of there.

it was cool to see darrel again. and jessica and brittany. and to meet sarah. i had a lot of fun. i was very tired though. so tired that i was able to sleep through most of outkast's set. and they were loud.

chrisnot led me into a men's dorm in her quest for soda. i don't think they knew what to make of us.

darrel, chrisnot, sarah and i went to alice's diner afterwards to get something to eat. alice was a big guy with a pony tail. i got my food immediately. the others had to wait a long time for theirs. chrisnot said it was because he could tell my bloodsugar had dropped and he was afraid to make me wait. but i was NOT being mean. i don't care what she says. and i didn't yell at her.

when we got back to our hotel we realized that the exotic dance club next to it served sandwiches. so we could have had entertainment while we ate. if only we had known.

the next day began my great car adventure. my car died to the sounds of Drive. "many nice folks suggest that we go for a drive" (oh sure. easy for you to say.) i sat there for a minute chanting... thinking that that would miraculously fix whatever had gone wrong. but apparently my car doesn't respond well to profanity. because it still wouldn't start.

so there i was along the side of interstate 74. middle of nowhere. 400 miles from home. scary.

luckily, a very nice truck driver picked me up. ( i got to ride in a big old semi. that was pretty cool.) he wouldn't leave me until he made sure we had found someone who could help me with my car. i am eternally grateful to him for that. we had to go a couple exits before we even found a gas station (it really was the middle of nowhere.

everyone was so nice. and helpful. like, way beyond what could reasonably be expected of them. my faith in humankind was restored.

when i finally got everything arranged and got checked into a hotel room and had nothing left to do but wait, it all hit me. and then i wanted to curl up into a ball and cry. so i called aimee and she talked to me until i felt better. thank you aimee.

so now i am home. my car is still in indiana. i get to go back this weekend and pick it up. (woo. another drive. and this time there'll be no show to dull the pain.) but, at least i still have a car.

and when i think about everything that happened, well, it really could have been a lot worse. even when i have bad luck, i'm lucky.

kristin! i am so glad you are home and safe. we were all worried. :)

this is why kristin and i are in love!*** no such thing as 'too many details' in our world! well, i take that back - i think we've learned that it all depends on who is telling the story, but in MOST cases details are good things.

in other news.....i got to talk to jill last night! i'm her toll-free friend!***

okay, that is all. thank you ma'ams and sirs.

Wow, sounds like you ladies saw quite a show! I'm glad for you. I want you to know that while you all were partying your asses off, I was stuck in "Medieval Times" for four hours waiting to find out our scores and sitting through loads of shit-for-brains knights and actors and kings and wizards and OH MY GOD IT SUCKED.

Four hours, my friends, four hours.

But, yes, it was damned cold up there. It was nice to see some snow Friday night, though. Memphis weather sucks.

Ok, so anyway, Kristin, I'm glad you are not dead, and Chrisnot, I'm glad you're not frozed.

That's all.
