Back to the Future

What do you see for the future of football, by say the year 2010. What changes do you think there will be? What changes would you like to see? This a pure fantasy question, so let your imaginations fly! (:o)

Hmm - no takers yet. Well, pay per view will be firmly established by then, so how about virtual stadia where you can pick your seat and watch the matches on your computer. Key pads where you get to vote on who plays, gets subbed etc? Voting rights as to who does or does not go on the transfer list? Climate control in the the real stadia? Or maybe the players should wear mikes so that you can hear just exactly what it was you thought you saw them mouth!? Or a personal favourite for my wish list, the words of any chants being sung, shown on the screen (complete with bouncing ball, of course) - it drives me mad when I can work out what`s being sung!............

How about a large hole opening up in Old Trafford and North West London and two of our least favourite parts of the world disappear forever?

Probably we'll see the ten yards for dissent rule firmly established along with 'sin-binning' (and that's nothing to do with Brookside).

Domestic league becomes more and more a battle for qualification among 18 teams to get into the Chumps League; League Cup becomes a Div1 competition; fixtures are firmly regulated and International games are set by UEFA / FIFA.

On the English front, Newcastle United manager, Alan Shearer announces his intention to resign after leading NUFC to 8 years of Premier League and European dominance.

I like the last bit :-)

Virtual Stadia?

Knowing my luck Galaxy, Freddie Fletcher would become the stadium webmaster and I'd get evicted (again) from my cyberseat!

Regarding chants, did you here the section of the Toon Army singing their version of Paul Anka's early 60's hit "She was only 15" to Graham Rix on Sunday? Naughty, but amusing neverheless.

There you are Clarky - you`ve just illustrated my point about putting the words up! No, I couldn`t work that one out, and a good laugh would have done a lot to defuse the tension! (:o)

Electronic aids - no not the immune deficiency desease picked up from sitting staring at a bbs all day - but those to be used to help referees become partially welcome members of the human race.

To the extent that if it could be shown that a goal was scored either directly or indirectly as a result of an un-noticed infringement, the resulting goal would be cancelled, even after the match was over, and the result made to stand as if that goal hadn't been scored.

Hence, Us v Villa in this year's final, having beaten Chewsea 1-0 in the semi.

And some way of getting shot of flailing arms and shirt pulling.

The virtual Stadia seems to be an interesting one. I think that the game won't change very much. The traditionalists will ensure that there will be only a few minor rule changes. I would like to see all the footballers and the ball hooked up to little Cameras and transmitters, So that the central game computer that has taken over from the ref and linesman can make deccisions so that there are no human errors of judgement. This could be one reasons why Newcastle have had as Bobby points out, 8 great years in the World league that we are now playing in. The Premier league has now split in two. There are two major British Leagues, The Sky Super leaugue, with BSkyb owned teams. The Other league of which Newcastle are registered with is the NTL UK mega league. The winners of both leagues play each other in what is billed as the UK cup final. The winners go through to the world league the following season, replacing the lower one of the two British teams in the W L.
