greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

This image just got sent back to me from a photo competition because of "bad composition" and "pictorial content could be better". I am interested in others opinion.

I'm not the best critique-er, but here goes. I like the color, but the composition doesn't thrill me. I wonder where this bird is. Context? Where's vertical?

Hopefully this will work; the previous attempts to post this image didn't but I could see it fine by selecting "view image."

I think it's an interesting image. Probably the contest's biggest beef is that you cut off the edges.

I think you mighta had 'em if both the tern's wings were in full light.

If this is close to full frame with a 300mm, it must not have been much further away than 10-20 ft. At this range, all I have to say is FILL-FLASH FILL-FLASH FILL-FLASH.

Hi,You are right to be pleased with this picture. Photo competitions are basically frustrating because usually there are alot of good photos competing and only so many can win. If you submitted the photo wanting constructive critism, you would do better with a forum like this. If you were attracted by the prizes, the chances are that, however good your photo, you may well be better off buying some lottery tickets!
