6pm Mon: Hi - I'm new. (First posting on semi-final thread after match ystdy) The original Manckies Goes To Hollywood story was in the Sunday People yesterday. I thought it was a late April Fool. Below is from tonight's Manchester Evening News:

"Movie superstar Mel Gibson is to turn Manchester Uniteds bravehearts into film stars.

The Reds will be coming to a cinema near you next October when United make their big screen debuts.

Gibsons production company Icon Films is in the middle of filming a behind-the-scenes look at the European Cup holders and some of their army of worldwide fans. The Aussie, whose Hollywood blockbusters include the Lethal Weapon series, Braveheart and the Mad Max movies, signed up for the unique cinema link-up with Old Trafford last year and the cameras began recording Uniteds global adventures in November.

The film is being co-directed by Bruce Davey, who was the inspiration behind the Oscar-winning box office smash Braveheart and has been Gibsons working partner for 20 years. Icon were today in Cannes selling the United movie to the film industry and it is expected to rake in around #25m at the box office.

The film currently has a working title of Manchester United: The Movie with the usual Hollywood-style eye-catching underline, Many are called. Few succeed. Its expected to run for around 90 minutes and will be screened in 60 countries in October.

David Beckham and Ryan Giggs will lead Uniteds quest to crack Tinseltown and the cameras have been tracking the treble-winning Reds around the globe. The first reels to be canned came last November in Tokyo when United travelled to the Far East and became World Champions against South American title winners Palmeiras.

As Sir Alex Fergusons side continued their Champions League pursuit in Europe and domestic Premiership matches the cameras were at their shoulders most of the way capturing fly-on-the-wall moments as the Reds travelled England and the continent by bus and plane."

Oh, perlease!

Complete with midfielder, Roy of 't Rovers Return, and their new CB, William Wallace, who wears blue make-up and a red & black tartan kilt, no doubt?

BTW: welcome benton - hope you enjoy the crack on here.

Ok, this has to be a hoax - but a very enjoyable one! My contribution to this story? Well, the mare in the field next to us is in foal to the horse that Mel Gibon rode in Braveheart! Is that a show biz story, or what! (:o)

Galaxy,

Can you get an autograph for me? haha ;)

Bizarre story this one though.....

You've got to wonder what kind of film it's gonna be? I reckon the only way it could be pulled off would be as a kind of documentary?? surely using actors to play the parts of players, backroom staff and Taggart just wouldn't work?

Mind you if that chap had still been alive who played Taggart (the detective!) then he would've been ready made for the role ;)

Okay Gav, I`ll see if I can get you a hoof print!

As for the story - I would so love it to be true, and given the full Hollywood treatment! Let your imagination run riot for a minute - it could be the funniest `serious` film for years! I`ve got this mental picture of Mel Gibson with a bald head playing Keane - Mel`s very good at manic you know! (:o) What a hoot!

Hahaha you've now got me thinking of Riggs (Lethal Weapon) with no hair playing Roy Keane....priceless!!

Come on people....Let's see if we can put some actors forward for the players parts :-

Dolph Lundgren - Peter Schmeicel Sigourney Weaver - Jaap Stam (well she had a bald head in Aliens!) Demi Moore - David Beckham (Bald head in GI Jane and the thong from Striptease!) Chris Tucker - Dwight Yorke (always grinning like a loon!)

I'll have to think up some more....
