London, Apr 08, 2000 (EFE via COMTEX) -- Two people died Saturday when a World War II-era Spitfire fighter plane crashed as it attempted to land at an airfield in West Sussex, in southern England, police reported.

The identities of the victims, the cause of the accident and the origin of the fighter plane are all unknown, police said, though the crew "was apparently engaged in training maneuvers."

An investigation has been opened. EFE
