Poe's work reflects his life in many ways. You will have to research it a great deal to know for sure what incident in his life he may have been speaking of in his writing. For example in The Cask of Amontillado poe is speaking of himself and John Allen. He wishes to wall John Allen up and his writings vent his feelings.

When Poe writes aobut death it is about his life. he dealt with so many deaths that it is obvious he would write about them. You willhave to do some research though!!!

im looking for the same question. I read that he wrote horror because it was the fashion of the time,that he was using this as a mask & was misunderstood & that he was suffering from many mental issues (look at critical essays of poe. its a book that might help.
