convert vcd files (dat files) to regular cd music (cdi files)

Thanks to the person(s) who coordinate this site and make the Q&A possible.

My question:

I have vcd at home. However, I don't have vcd player in the car (nor do I need one). I do want just to listen to the music offered by the vcd. How can I convert (or whatever you want to call it) the vcd files, which is in *.dat format, to regular CD format, in *.cdi.

In other word, I want to listen to the the contents without caring for the movies, whether still there in the files or not.

Interesting....i've not tried this yet but maybe it will work....here goes....

1. Extract the mpeg *.dat clip from the VCD using VCDgear....to an mpeg file. 2. Demux the mpeg clip into its audio/video components...using DVMpeg5.01 or some other demuxer(s). 3. Convert the audio part to wave format....Q-Media Design or CoolEdit. 4. Burn the wave to the CD-R.

OR you can convert the file back to mpeg using the vcdgear(like mentioned in above post), then if you have the SOUND FORGE program, this will let you run in mpegs it will show you the sound, then hit save as and save the new file as a wave. Now you have a new and seperate wave file of your mpeg

All you need is Jiao Mpegplayer. It can convert your dat to mp3. After that all you need is any cd burner to convert that to an audio cd. eg. WinOn, Adaptec etc.
