Introduction to lens attachments?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

The Kodak DC280 has a lens adapter which allows attachment of 37mm lens attachments.

Is the 37mm a standard size so that any 37mm screw on lens will work? Or is this specific to the camera? Alternativly can you add a converter from 37mm to some other standard size that various lenses come in? And if so will they work?

Is there a Primer somewhere that describes the standard mounts for a newbie?

Tom:
The threading is the same for all lenses. Any lens that accepts a 37mm screw-on filter will be common. There are several sizes that are common among certain cameras. You can use step-up and step-down rings to convert the lens attachment or filter to the size you require - but there are practical limits. For example, don't plan on trying to step up a 37mm attachment to a lens requiring a 52mm screw- on adapter. You can always use step-down rings, but step-up rings will often result in vignetting of the image.
You can get step-up and step-down rings from NetPhotoStore.
