A little lyrical fun...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : It's All About Joe 90: The Discussion Board : One Thread

Alright... so I am bored stiff at work today so I thought I would inquire about other's favorite joe 90 / gods child lyrics. Being a poet myself, I have always been intrigued by poetry and lyrics. I thought it would be interesting to see what lyrics everyone digs...

Here are a few of my favorites:

"Anything I could have said, to make you stop and think again" -- Superhero

"You say goodbye to suit tie, can't fly, decide, your transatlantic" -- November Bombs

"I just saw a star begin to crumble" -- This is the Real World?

These are just a few snippets i really like. so come one, come all and reply with your favorites.

Best,

my lyric picks (they change according to mood, but these are my current faves -- and i'm using the Kristin Everybody and Aluminum disclaimer!):

"if a loser dies trying, tries at winning, wins at nothing, what does he find...he finds the truth" -- Truth

"look down deep...until it starts...breaking you down" -- Mascara

"sometimes i get to dreaming...but the nightmares seem so real" -- November Bombs

"anything i could have said...to make you stop and think again" -- Superhero

"does your life look like painted glass?" -- Just A Dream

yikes. this is too hard. i suck at favorites kinda games. I LOVE TOO MUCH!

meanwhile --

i saw the Gary DeRosa Airborne Express Guy stunt double today. he was talking on a cell phone. coincidence? i think not.

mwwwah!

>>have a wonderful show, and to the IN people...you too!<<

the IN people!!! oh my god. after all these years... i'm finally part of the IN crowd. i may cry.

have fun tonight, erin and all the other LA people. hope it's a great show.

>>so I thought I would inquire about other's favorite joe 90 / gods child lyrics. <<

i'm not going to attempt anything from either of the gods child albums because those cds are at home and i don't have any way to double check the lyrics. i'm just not up for public embarrassment today.

but here are a few (but not all) from dream this. (watch me embarrass myself anyway. lol.)

"up against the wall
against it all
you feel so small
you're not where you wanted to be" - flatline static

"sometimes i get to dreaming
but the nightmares seem so beautiful" - november bombs

"the moon was guilty
and the sun melted in my ashtray" - november bombs

"another sunny day
in LA
spend it breaking down
all your friends are gone" - cars go by

entire song - just a dream

I really like this line from Super Hero: "the lights they flicker out and on"

As a writer [or wannabe] that line fascinates me. It would have been so easy to say "off" instead of out. It wouldn't have the same impact as "off," though. I had to ask Chris about it. I held back for as long as I could, but I finally broke down and started gushing about how wonderful I think that line is. I didn't think he would actually remember writing that line, and I doubted it was even a conscious decision to use "out" instead of "off." And he pretty much didn't. He did say his writing is similar to a lot of the old beat poetry in the sense that it is stream of consciousness, and that he does some minor editing later.

some of my other favorites: "doubt is a traitor to you" --Truth "oh i love watching you/do you love watching me too?" --Look "sometimes i get to dreaming but the nightmares seem so beautiful"-- Nov. Bombs "i got caught by mother in my room/kissing the window" --Space Boy

my favorite non-lyric: "she don't like ed no more/she won't give blood no more" --Blurred :)

happy friday everyone :) today is already a happy day for me because i had to take my puppy to the vet this morning and his Parvo test was negative. yay! I wish i was in LA for the show, but since i can't be there i expect details. lots of details.

ooh good... stuff to get my mind off of tomorrow. i'm making a compilation tape for the four hour drive right now. currently: mrs. potter's lullaby, part 2. (er, i did part 1 too...) our friend adam is so worried about britt and i... he said to her, "make sure to stay with jessica. don't let anyone hurt you or i will drive out to indiana MYSELF." whoa, you don't understand this... this guy is never nice in a real way. i don't know why he's so worried, but...

anyway! lyrics.

"you can unlock the world, i think your world's inside." - stone horses. i used that quote for the subject line of a very emotional email so it always reminds me of that...

"i'm no disaster, i'm just the master of something faster than what she's after" - slide

"if all you could do is make a boy who knew, why is it he always wonders why?" - picture this

"heart of extasy, a moment of weak, this invention of man" - heart of extasy

"everything you never thought is just about to happen to you (you can break through)" - truth

"sometimes i get to dreaming but the nightmares seem so real" - november bombs

"was it real or was it really just a dream?" - just a dream (i just love the simplicity of that lyric)

"does your life look like glass, is it hard to see through and fading fast" - just a dream

that's far too many... and there are more... but this message is too long already. :)

final thought: anyone know why the word... OHH! okay, i was just about to ask why the word star is capitalized in "this is the real world?" ... isn't chris' wife named star? maybe that's why. or maybe there's some other meaning i'm not seeing?

my favorite lyric, hands down

"feel tom or vedder"

is that 103.1 thing from this morning going to be re-broadcast? is it archived somewhere? anyone? bueller?!

-- ~Jill (beezer6801@aol.com), April 07, 2000.

great topic, josh-a-roni :)

i'll try to keep this short, although i could probably go on and on because chris' songwriting amazes me.

"your realitys a drag, you want to live in a dream" and "you can unlock the moon, i think your world's inside, yeah it's dark in there but there's nothing you can hide" stone horses

"you're the only person that can tell you that you're doing wrong" milk

"there's a little truth in every lie, there's a little rain in every sunshine" reachin

"i just saw a star about to crumble, shooting for what you never find" this is the real world?

THE WHOLE SONG NEED!!!!

"if it feels right do it, do what you need" lift me up (i had to include this because i have this special love for lift me up)

"YEAH" ferris wheel

"and if you wanna be, what you always try to be, don't go looking for...etc" truth

the whole song November Bombs, just because :) but especially the lyrics that they forgot to record.

"anything i could have said to make you stop and think again" superhero

"how do you feel? it feels like something, feeling bad or better? it feels like something, how do you feel?" blurred

"in this dream of black and white, we were talking all thru the night" just a dream

YEAH, i kept this short, huh?

Have fun at the shows this weekend everyone. I'm already looking forward to reviews.

Joe 90- please come back to the east coast soon. We miss you.

OH...i was reading rolling stone today..there was an article about levon helm. they mentioned his weekly gig at the joyous lake that chris was so excited about. i would love to just go back to woodstock to check out the town a little more. (and maybe bring along the can of whoopass for that radio guy eric)

"the only thing you recognize is what you never want to be" milk

"what you found in your dream people lose in between and they never find - nevermind" silver sky pilot

"wait a little while it'll take too long" sey

"i just saw a star about to crumble shooting for the sky on the ground" this is the real world?

"the world is always falling when im trying to stand" this is the real world?

"and the girls are so happy - and the boys are so absurd - and the wind is making speeches cause they found out the king is a girl - 'im the man' " female elvis

"lie to me and make me believe" spaceboy

"your world is a high wire artist - and we're about to jump unless - you confess - what the truth is" picture this

"did you ever want to be like lou reed, down on his knees? did you ever want to be a superstar?" life me up

:::::does the SUPAHSTAH pose:::::

and all of my faves from dream this were mentioned, i think. except

"the floor was crooked and creaky i dont love this place anymore"

"the time is up not where you have to be"

"you take the railroad the same road that you sold and bought your invention"

"6 o'clock the sun asleep...." etc etc :)

-- ~Jill (beezer6801@aol.com), April 07, 2000.

i can't believe that i forgot probably my favorite line of any joe 90 or gods child song.

"baby tee's and plastic shades, i feel higher than the heels i wore before"

this line intrigues me...what exactly does this MEAN?
