OTFR: You started this forum for a reason. Is there anything in particular YOU would like to discuss?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

I'm sure there are many of us that are grateful for what you've done. Is there anything we can do to repay you? Do some research for you? Have a discussion on a particular topic? What? Nothing maybe? Is Y2k a dead issue for you too? Will you maintain this forum even if it is?

Answers

what i see is a sort of "cyber-pub" going on here. most of the hardcore doomers are gone or have woken up to reality, there are still a few pathetic "6.4 240lb wannabe" twerps but such is life!

i see reasonable people discussing everything under the sun....i say have fun! if y2k comes up, it comes up.

just my 2 cents worth!

Thanks for your concerns, Anonymous. I have been taking part of discussions under my real forum name, and I have no intention of closing this forum in the near future.

As OTFR, I have no views on anything, I am completely impartial. I am only the maintainer of the forum. And no, I will not tell you who I am, and I will not be coaxed into it either.

Enjoy the forum,

OTFR

Funny how it's hard to tell when and how the sysop changes things, eh?

-- Winnie the pooh (Friends@family.together), April 07, 2000.

There are so many different topics here, its hard to see if any specific topic isn't being covered. Ya know?

-- try to think of (something@different.here), April 07, 2000.

If I had to guess, I'd say that OTFR was Peter Errington. Reasons are as follows:

1) He was a moderator of the old forum
2) He was the one who did the "fixing" of html snafu's on the old forum
3)There have been several snafu's fixed here
4)Peter admitted that he did not see y2kpro spam the other forum, no other jackboot would EVER say such a thing out loud...it would be treason in the doom ranks!(possible exception would be nightdriver)
5)He has shown civility and courtesy in allowing EVERYONE of whatever persuasion to post to HIS forum- none of the other jackboots would allow such a thing
6) He has 'outed' impersonators of pollys, again something La Fuhrina & Co can't tolerate.

Just my guess.

WHOEVER OTFR is, you should NOT remain anon...you have shown something that none of the other pessimists have; the ability to adapt and change, and a desire to "get to the bottom" of what happened.

-- (unknown@anon.nobody), April 07, 2000.

unknown -

Why is it so important that OTFR be known? Our host has chosen to remain anonymous in his role as Sysop, as is his prerogative.

I became active on "Old TB2K" in early 1998 and watched in dismay as it descended in its last days into an angry, spam-filled mess. I'm very grateful that OTFR has taken on the task of establishing and maintaining "New TB2K" and that we have so many of the originals still with us, plus some wonderful new contributors. If OTFR chooses to maintain anonymity, so be it. Your attempts to uncover his identity seem a bit impolite to me.

Why not just relax and enjoy the forum? It could be (and has been) much, much worse.

-- DeeEmBee (macbeth1@pacbell.net), April 07, 2000.

I am not the moderator of this forum.

In fact, I was never one of the moderators of the old forum.

My schedule has never allowed more than brief forays into any forum. For example, because of personal reasons, I missed all of November and December of last year, just when I'm sure hell was a poppin' on old TB2000 because of the approach of the new year.

-- Peter Errington (petere@ricochet.net), April 08, 2000.

Forgive my transgression, and no disrespect to you OTB2K regular, but did anybody see something different this morning in Old tb2k regular's post? I may be hallucinating, and I did a double-take this morning, but I could swear I saw the name Chris underneath OTBR-

Yep, I could swear I saw "chris" and then the usual e-mail address.

Hey sysops, everyone loves a good mystery-please admonish then forgive me if I am correct and I have blown your cover.

I hope I am wrong. Their is more fun not knowing who you are. One of my favorite bands is "The Residents"-they have been around 30 years with no one knowing who they are!

Did anyone else see a different post this morning?

OTBR-Take this opportunity to let me know if I have crossed the line.

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), April 08, 2000.

Future Shock, should use the grey matter and think.

-- future shock (noodle@dried.up), April 08, 2000.

Future Shock,

Nope, you must have been hallucinating.

Besides, if you think that it's more fun not knowing who OTFR is, then why are you posting this thread to begin with?

Who knows, maybe I'm OTFR?

-- Flash (flash@flash.hq), April 08, 2000.

To answer the critics-yep and yep.

One should not post when they are too tired to post. While I do not see an overwhelming paradox in wanting to know while at the same time not wanting to know, It is more than obvious(duh) that OTBR wants to remain anonymous.

What the hell is the matter with me? Higher functions must be shutting down.

My apologies, otbr.

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), April 08, 2000.

I bet "OTFR" wants to discuss those beautiful models that pose with leather-clad dogs in fashion magazines, doesn't she?? ;-)

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), April 08, 2000.

Gees, I feel flattered Future Shock! Am I making such a good impression on you that you now hallucinate? ;-)

-- Chris (!@#$@pond.com), April 08, 2000.

-- Chris (!@#$@pond.com), April 08, 2000.

Chris, I hate to break this to you at such a late date, but, it is likely that you aren't the only Chris posting here :o) At least not as I remember.

Best wishes,,,,

Thanks for deflating my ego with such a clean cut, Z :-P

-- Chris (!@#$@pond.com), April 08, 2000.

No way is OTFR a chick.

It's a guy and I'm madly in love with him! =)

I know who you are OTFR! (giggle)

Hey this would be good subject of new thread "Guess OTFR's identity". I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it.

-- cin (cinloo@aol.corn), April 08, 2000.

SYSMAN!!!

cin let the cat out of the bag!

That's cool, he is a way cool dude.

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), April 08, 2000.

I'll use my "conservative" side to state here that I'm of the opinion that OTFR's identity should remain a mystery without question. Like many of you, I have my suspicions, but there's just something about OTFR remaining anonymous that appeals to me. If we KNEW the identity, I feel it would inhibit OTFR from engaging in conversations under his/her REAL name.

Let's keep his/her position as administrator of this forum a secret and allow him/her to suffer the very same ramifications that WE suffer when we engage in threads of controversy.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), April 08, 2000.

Sysman? Ya really think?

-- cin (cinloo@aol.corn), April 08, 2000.

Yep cin, not only do I think, I know! (you forgot your sly grin at the end of your last reply)

Now you're trying to be hush-hush aren't you?

Well, that's okay too. (I'll say no more)

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), April 08, 2000.

Oh Hawk

You know you're the only one for me. =) <---sly grin

-- cin (cinloo@aol.corn), April 08, 2000.

Yep,

I gotta tell ya, there are times when someone needs to say things that the sysop can't say.

Kinda screws up the Caesar's wife thing. You can still be totally impartial in what you DO but what you SAY causes someone else to ascribe intentions that you don't have.

I know I used a couple alter-egos. Still do.

Leave it lay. Don't push. Enjoy the forum.

Chuck, who should surprise no one by still lurking and occasionally posting.

-- Chuck, a night driver (rienzoo@en.com), April 08, 2000.

OHHHH Cin, : (

Have I been cuckled? How could you?Beastiality with a hawk? When I am the Captain Of Fun?

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), April 08, 2000.

"You can still be totally impartial in what you DO"

How can deleting/banning people be considered impartial?

-- (OTFR@is my .hero. You have to think about what you did for a LONG time.), April 08, 2000.

Capnfun

You KNOW I adore you!

p.s. cuckled?

-- cin (cinloo@aol.corn), April 08, 2000.

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), April 09, 2000.

-- cin (cinloo@aol.corn), April 09, 2000.

WOW.... I saw something out of the corner of my eye.... who knows what it may be, but I could swear it was OFR's real name....Then.... could it be?... Real names and real dangers.... good name for a book? :-)

Now there is a real story.... a real story :-)

-- Netghost (ng@no.yr), April 10, 2000.

Interesting.

We have chuck saying that he did indeed post under several handles, we on the old forum ALL the sysops strenuosly denied posting under different names..

We have peter errington saying he was NOT a sysop, but diane thanked him for being "#2"(read the archives)

Wetoast says Old twit was not a sysop, even though she was the most rabid deleter on the old forum.

Starting to see a pattern. It will be interesting to watch it emerge.

-- (psycho@na.list), April 10, 2000.

Interesting post.... this is what caught my eye...

Wetoast says Old twit was not a sysop, even though she was the most rabid deleter on the old forum.

Starting to see a pattern. It will be interesting to watch it emerge.

-- (psycho@na.list), April 10, 2000.

Ever notice that when someone want's to foster hate they go for calling people names?... you know, like sleezyboard, nigger, old twit, wetoast.... guess that's one way to further your agenda :-)

-- Netghost (ng@no.yr), April 10, 2000.

Psycho, since I never was a sysop, I'm fascinated by your reference to the statement by Diane that I was #2. (Her posterior will be grass if that turns out to be an insult). Please provide the world, and me, with a link.

-- Peter Errington (petere@ricochet.net), April 10, 2000.

psycho + analist = (psycho@na.list) : a person suffering from a form of neurosis which manifests itself in the form of obsessive/compulsive anal fetishes and perversions

-- Sigmund Freud (you.are@what.you.eat), April 11, 2000.

There are a few of us that know Psycho@nalyst is right.

The rest of you need to go back, and DO YOUR ASSIGNED READING.

Start at TimeBomb 2000 and read every thread from last November forward.

The truth is difficult to decipher, but some of it is there.
