Load shedding in the capital city continued in its worst form on Thursday when the people experienced erratic behaviour of power supply during scorhing days of summer season.

The power supply situation further aggravated following abrupt shutdown of the 4th unit of the 210 MW Ghorashal Power Plant on Monday due to technical fault. However, the unit is likely to resume production by Tuesday next.

The situation of loadshedding did not improve on Thursday in almost all the areas of the capital city. All the areas of the city particularly the thickly populated areas people went on without power supply for several hours.

The areas include Saidabad, Gopibag, Goran, Malibag, Mouchak, Siddeswari, Rampura, Khilgaon, Gulbag, Badda, Elephant Road, New Market and also old Dhaka areas.

It is alleged that people in the affected areas were facing shortage of water supply.

The total generation of the Power Development Board was 2400 megawatt on Thursday and the loadshedding all over the country was nearly 180 MW, PDB sources claimed.

But the situation of loadshedding in the capital city was over 200 megawatt on Thursday.

According to a source, the DESA is unable to meet the demand of consumers due to limitation of transmission lines and inadequate number of sub-stations.
