The product web page doesn't say much. Does anyone know A) How much it will cost in the US? B) Where will you be able to buy it? C) What editing functionality will it have if any?

Also, what chips is it using for the MPEG1 encoding.

Also, if someone does buy this, could you please post a review on this site.

According to the email i'd received from Amoisonic, the VDR2000 is supposed to be available in the Chinese market in May and in international market by June of this year. What you've seen is probably an early demo of the product or Amoisonic has released it earlier then expected. Price will be somewhere in the 350 - 450 us range but not definite....

According to http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/press/pr633.html, this will only list for $299!

It would be interesting to see whether or not this unit will be sophisticated enough to record ver 2.0 VCD, menus, hotspots, and all and if video quality on playback will be acceptable on all levels.

It doesn't really matter if it doesn't do menus and other interactive VCD/SVCD features. If you record it to a CDRW, you can just put that disc in your PC, copy the mpeg stream to the hard drive and use your favorite authoring tool to make it interactive without wasting a disc.

That's what I plan to do when I get a hold of this unit.

im just hoping it has a higher capture rate then the dazzle does at a normal vcd 115 rate, if not i might as well just stick with what i got now.

should cost around $670 retail

Here is a little bit for the techies. Still don't know if this thing is available. Anyone?

Stream Machine, a provider of audio and video semiconductor solutions, today announced the first product of a partnership with Amoisonic Electronics Company. Amoisonic, a manufacturer of audio and video products in China, and Stream Machine have joined forces to produce the world's first home VideoDisc Recorder, VDR, which the two say provides DVD quality. The technology is on at display at CES.

The VideoDisc Recorder/player is enabled by Stream Machine's real-time MPEG-2 digital video encoding and decoding technology. The VDR provides high-quality record/playback at low bit rates enabling the use of low cost CD-RW drives and low cost CD-R and CD-RW disks as the recording media.

The VDR is made possible by the Stream Machine SM2210 MPEG-2 video codec which supports real-time video encoding and decoding using a single-pass variable bit rate MPEG-2 encoding technique, providing higher video quality than traditional constant bit rate MPEG-2 encoding.

Because the SM2210 is a true codec, doing both encode and decode functions, the total system cost and parts count is reduced compared to systems using separate MPEG-2 encoders and decoders. In addition, the SM2210 combines a high-degree of system integration with ease of design. It interfaces directly to popular NTSC/PAL video decoders, NTSC/PAL video encoders, microcontrollers for embedded applications, and PCI interface chips for PC applications, which eliminates costly glue logic. And it requires only 4 MegaBytes of SDRAM for full resolution NTSC 30 frames per second MPEG-2 encoding, further reducing parts count and system cost.

Helllo,

I am living currently in Singapore and here, there is a branch of Amoisonic. They have informed me in their email that they have come out with a new version of VDR called VDR2001 which is supposed to be improved. As for VDR2000, the capture quality of A Bug's Life is not so pleasing to the eyes.A bit jerky in smooth scenes and frames dropped in heavy action scenes with some noticeable blockiness around moving objects.I have not seen VDR2001 quality but hopefully, it would have been improved. Anyway, the VDR2001 retail in Singapore at a place called Sim Lim Sq for 800 Singapore dollars.Hope it help you guys.

Here is the email they sent me.

And with regards to some action recordings which you comment was out of place as there were much skipping on the Frame in each recordings. For that, we have mentioned to our manufacturers and they have make lots of amendments on the previous development. right now, we have a newer model, much better than Amoisonic VDR2000. We are offering a special price for your sake @ S$800.00 If you are interested, you can always drop me a mail. I have attached this new model for your valuable perusal.

thank you & Best Regards Winston Hong Regional Sales & Marketing Manager MEDIACITY CORPORATION (S) PTE LTD EMAIL: mediacity@singapore.com HP: 65 - 98519819 Fax: 65 - 242 1538
