I've been getting email from a company called getvcds.com. Has anyone heard of them. Are they reliable? Where are they based?

I just ordered 4 VCD's from getvcds.com I'll be sure to post again and tell everyone if I was satisfied.

How were you able to order when the site displays an "under maintenance" message? I have been trying to access for a few days now.

-- wproot (proot@yahoo.com), December 16, 2000.

You may need to clear your web browser's cache. Among other things. But I've accessed this site several times from several computers and it comes up fine. Again the exact address is http://getvcds.com/

DON'T FORGET!
ASK IF THE FILM HAS BEEN CENSORED OR NOT.
MOST MOVIES FROM ASIA HAVE BEEN CENSORED.
IT IS THE LAW THEIR. THE GOVERMENT HAS ALL CONTROL ON WHAT THEY CAN OR CAN'T WATCH. IF YOU READ OTHER POSTS HERE THEY EVEN STATE AS MUCH AS "IT DEPENDS IF THE SENSOR WAS IN A GOOD MOOD OR NOT ON HOW MUCH IS CUT."
VIOLENCE, SWEARING, SEX HAVE BEEN CUT.
IF YOU DON'T MIND OR IF THE MOVIES YOU ARE GETTING DON'T CONTAIN VIOLENCE AND SUCH.
I HAVE SEEN SOME CUT OUT AS MUCH AS 30 MINUTES FROM A MOVIE.
ALWAYS ASK THE FULL PLAYING TIME OF THE VCD YOU ARE BUYING AND IF IT HAS BEEN CENSORED.

I was satisfied! I got 4 movies total and once shipped they arrived in 2!! days from Malaysia and I'm on the east coast of the US. Some were edited. Even though it does explain this on the homepage, it is easy to look over since it is at the VERY bottom in small letters under "product policy". I don't mind though. I got "The Wizard of Oz" which was NOT edited but was diffcult to get to play. "The Blair Witch Project" is missing about 4 minutes....even though I could probably get this title illegally off of the web somewhere I like to properly "own" my copy. "3D Safari" ran fine with some outstanding 3D video of wildlife, I doubt any of this was edited dispite the fact I have never seen this title anywhere else. And lastly "Play It To The Bone" is a boxing movie complete with violence and four letter words and subtitles, which I was aware of but don't mind since I watch TV with closed captions. It was weird though to have a country with so much censorship spelling out cuss words for me. My only disappointments were that these were not compatible with my 486 with an MPEG card with TV out so I could watch them on TV. Boo-hoo I'll just have to convert the ".dat" to ".mpg"....which I've tested and it works...strange...I'm new to this but I assume it's the bitrate or my ms-dos compatible cd-rom...the cd-rom has a strange configuration...anyway..It plays on my other computers fine. If I had to think of other improvments this site could make is to have the running times listed with the movies. Some movies do have running times listed such as "The Blair Witch" but it is good business to properly display what your selling. This is my first VCD purchase so I can't compare nor recommend. But the shipping was FAST!! but at a fedex flat rate of 8.99.....more expensive then most VCD's.., the VCD's came in nice regular CD jewel cases. The picture quality is nice and not pirated...I assume. For $41 US dollars total I got 4 titles which I think is a little steap but comparable in price to VHS and DVD titles. VCD's are just an experiment for me to play with now but if I were to buy again I would shop at www.getvcds.com It would be nice to have unedited american VCD's. I like the wide range of computers VCD's and Mpegs can play on but I guess I'll be going to ripping DVD's soon. Does anybody know of any american VCD stores?

2 days! But whoa! Did you say subtitles? That sounds like a sure sign for a bootleg. Or is it? As far as I know legal vcds never contain any subs. And by the way, I can't seem to access the getvcds site. Like wproot says, I get a 'site maintenance' message. Yes, I tried clearing my cache. And BTW, I also get the maintennace message with the following sites too..eurekamovies.com, allvcd.com & videocds.com. Are these sites closed? Or am I the only one with problems? I can access the other vcd sites though - vcdgallery.com, coolvcd.com, archivalmovie.com

NO, The only VCD with subtitles was "Play It To The Bone". AND www.getvcds.com will tell you which title contains subtitles, it is plainly displayed on the page that has its description. As for accessing the site, I'm using Internet Explorer and have never had a problem accessing http://www.getvcds.com or http://getvcds.com , I havn't tested with Netscape. I'm in the US too...maybe your ISP has something to do with it. It's seems like they have a huge amount of titles too and least expensive then www.videocds.com, which this forum recommends.

Yipee! My VCD's now play on my 486 great. It came out to be it was my CD-ROM. I had a strange SCSI connection through my soundcard which somehow seemed to corupt my .dat files. I had to use 1 of 2 generic drivers specifically for my soundcard. I just swapped CD-ROMs from another computer thats around. :-)

There is a link posted to getvcds from the vcd section of www.d8a.co.uk - this should work - (I agree pretty much with the rankings on this site although the videocd gallery would be my no 1 choice as they match any other price - they ship quickly and have very low prices already!) Subtitles does sound a little suspect to me?

Get vcds is run by a former employee/partner of video-cds.com so if you were on their mailing list your name may have been taken from this list (I wouldn't be surprised if they all run parallel business and the money is going into the same pot! Beware the shipping charges as you pay $1 extra per vcd - other sites ship for less see the list on www.d8a.co.uk although the guy who runs getvcd (Hans) seems friendly enough and Has done me a good deal in the past!

Is the free vcd you receive from getvcds.com originals.

-- Kenny.K (zeldalink62@hotmail.com), February 06, 2001.

Sure. It was a widescreen version with NO noticeable edits. It seems to be a full-length film, lucky for a boxing movie. It had all the violence, bad words, and a few sexual puns. I havn't seen the orignal movie to compare, but I'm sure very few seconds of sexual material was censored. It was complete legit.

getvcds.com runs by someone else. The one runs by Hans is allvcd.com, Both current owner of getvcds.com and allvcds.com are used to be the founder/shareholder of videocds.com, both of them sold the share to someone else. I not sure who is the person at getvcds.com who used to be the owner of videocds.com

-- Rdove (ravagingdove@yahoo.com), February 16, 2001.

I bought The Killer and Hardboiled A John Woo movie from Getvcds.com I think this is DVD Rip because I think these are similar to the DVD version. I haven't watch the DVD though. If anybody had watch both of these on DVD could you sent me what the subtitles look like. If anybody bought from them tell me do you think this is original or DVD rips? Both are the English versions.
