CHENGDU (April 5) XINHUA - Large numbers of dead fish have recently been found floating in the Dadu and Minjiang rivers in the city of Leshan, in southwest China's Sichuan Province.
A report reaching here today said that an estimated 450 tons of dead fish have been found floating in the rivers since March 13, causing direct economic losses totaling 10 million yuan (about 1.2 million US dollars).
So far, no reason for the deaths has been found, the report added.
The city's environment-monitoring station said that no abnormal substance has been found in the waters of the Dadu and Minjiang rivers in three batches of samples taken since March 15.
A joint team consisting of personnel from the local fishing, environmental protection and public health departments has been formed to further investigate the phenomenon.
