Creating a VCD from Linux

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

(This has been asked by others a couple of times in the past but with no solutions offered.)

How do I create a VCD on Linux. Apparently cdrecord can be used to burn the disk but how do I convert a set of mpeg files into an image conforming to the video cd filesystem? Is there software around for doing this? If not, is there a spec of the video cd filesystem online somewhere?

Thanks.

I would imagine the specs are at http://www.mpeg.org or http://www.mpeg.com.

I too have been waiting for a way to create VCDs in Linux. Perhaps creating a project at http://sourceforge.net will attract someone who has written a program or has enough knowledge (not me) to write one. Of course it should be free and open source:) If you're interested in doing this, let me know.

Someone already started a project at http://www.sourceforge.com. Go to http://sourceforge.net/project/?group_id=4281.

I'm curious if a Linux solutions has been made and could it be ported to PVM or beowulf to speed up the mpeg conversions.

You can make VCD images with the vcdimager under Linux: http://www.vcdimager.org/ However, you still need to have VCD ready MPEGs ready to convert to an image. It's still a little difficult.

There a few nice guides covering that topic in http://dvdripping-guid.berlios.de

I just created a VCD from an .avi (divx) file, and.. It works!!
