addendum: counters everywhere (PV)

Counters to the right of me; counters to the left of me; there were counters everywhere in Tunetown. I saw at least a dozen, including Wiley Maven, who was kind enough to let me stay in his room for a couple of nights because I couldn't get a room. The comped room I had been promised at Gold Strike didn't materialize because the Binion's World Championship Poker Tournament was in town, and filled up every available room before I got there. I talked to the host, who extended my comp for another month, so I will be staying at GS in April. Other counters who were there included General Pershing, Wildcard, John Clark, BigPlayer, and Suth'n Gent, among others. Dvbj and DD' may have shown up after I left. Many I didn't know by sight. I frequently had to leave a table because another counter sat down. PV

(Rick) Other Counters

PV,

I'm pointing out the following, because I'm aware that tables in Tunica casinos can get crowded and if you are settled in at a good table, you shouldn't feel "forced" to leave as a result of another player....

>I frequently had to leave a table because another counter sat down.

Contrary to what many may consider popular belief, this should really be a non-issue. I trust your game, act and pit awareness is right on, so you would not draw the heat. If the pit heats up, you'd notice it and take appropriate measures. This is especially true if there aren't many other choices. If need be you could "creatively" get rid of the other counter. After all, it is your table and you own it!

I further stress that I feel there are more important things to look at other than what other players at the table are doing (e.g., looking for other counters) because you may miss what is happening in the pit, which is much more important. Agree? However, if you do possess the ability to maintain the count, ensure your payouts are accurate, watch for dealer weaknesses, watch the pit for any warning signs AND on top of that evaluate the skill of other players, that is great! Personally, I can't do ALL of that, so, I generally ignore other players.

I appreciate your efforts to build the bank back!

Regards, Rick

I agree (PV)

I probably removed myself from a table too often, considering the actual risk of staying. Especially considering that Tunica casinos typically have a very small number of good games, surrounded by poor ones. I just don't like having another counter at the table moving his bets in unison with mine. Thanks for pointing this out to me; it's good to be reminded of these things once in a while. I actually moved from a $10 minimum table, where I had not placed a single bet more than $50, because I didn't like this guy mimicking my bets - as if the pit crew was paying any attention to it at all. As you suggest, I actually ran off about as many of them as I abandoned. Splitting tens works well for this, even better than spilling beer if the other counter is an amateur. Thanks again for the insight. PV
