TNT cutting scenes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

As a fairly new reader of alt.tv.er's episode summaries, I've been watching the TNT reruns, then reading the summaries. TNT seems to cut at least one scene that I might read about in the summaries. Does anyone notice this? I know that syndicated shows have to be edited, but, gee whiz, they've only had the show for 1 1/2 years. Can't they keep it intact? The other night, on "Hit and Run", after Carter's had a terrible day (he identified the dead teenager incorrectly, and called the wrong parents), TNT cut the uplifting "baby being born" scene at the end. I also don't remember Benton's hallucination scene in "Whose Appy Now".

Just wondering if anyone notices these things, and is ticked off!

I've noticed that they cut scenes too. The first time that I saw "Hit and Run" they showed the scene when Carter delivered the baby but the second time I saw it they didn't show that scene. I thought that was a big scene in the character development for him. It ticked me off too!

ABC also shows reruns on Saturday and Sunday nights, at 11:30 PM and they also cut scenes. Usually they aren't 'critical' scenes to the episode, but may have more long term consequences, which makes it even more annoying for those of us who watch it for the long haul.

With scenes missing on TNT and ABC, I'm guessing the syndication distributor is cutting them. Anyone know who that is? Warner Bros? I hate when scenes are cut, or episodes skipped (like the Christmas ones) because the continuity and minute bits are missed.

Yeah, actually, does anyone know why they do this? It's not like the time slot is smaller, they don't need to edit it. That doesn't make much sense.

The only reason I can think of to do this is the obvious one: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. They could sell an extra commercial or two.

The reason they cut scenes is of course to make room for commercials. Haven't you ever noticed how long commercial breaks are on TNT? You can practically watch another show. I usually watch Jeopardy during the second half of ER and don't seem to miss a beat with either show. It is annoying if you're a real fan, but syndicators have been doing it since reruns were invented.

They also cut the scene of Kerry limping down the street in Obstruction of Justice.

The snippers cut the scene on Luka and Carol discussing baseball's in- field fly rule 'The Fastest Year,' but thankfully they left in the scene on the bus and the conversation on minivans...

Luka: 'We'll have them put a Porsche engine in it.' Carol: 'Really?!' Luka: 'No...' Um... I'm sorry... I was kidding.' Carol: I don't think bringing you along was such a good idea.'

I love that scene...

This really isn't the place for this, but since I can't start a new thread, I wish we could start new threads for discussion of season 8!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any one share my opinion?
