Grey Shrike Thrush

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Hi I am interested in opinions on the subject shot. Taken at the Astronomical society of NSW's dark sky site, Wiruna near ilford NSW. The bird was habituated, I think it may have been fed at nearby farm houses. I kept her interested with small amounts of cheese.

Canon T-90 500mm f4.5 L @ f4.5, 300TL/Project-a-Flash. Manfrotto 055B/#268 ballhead.

ps it is not clear from rules if I have to post here as well as at Andrei Frolov's web page, so I uploaded there and posted URL here as well.

Hi Chris,

A nice, interesting shot. Fill flash goes a long way in this shot. Good work.

BTW, there is no species of "Grey Shrike Thrush" that I can find. Thrush and Shrikes are very different birds. It looks like it may be a thrush, but I'm not sure. Check out enature.com for a good online bird field guide.

Hi,

should have added that "Grey Shrike Thrush" is an Australian species, that has no relationship to shrikes of thrushes. the species has a beautiful song, hence thrush I think, and perhaps a superficial similarity to shrikes in looks or habits. A lot of Aust. birds have common names like this.

Nice picture! It would be better if you include the tail of the bird in the picture, though. The bird was too close to you, huh?
