Highers hit by computer glitch

SOME pupils may not be able to sit their
Standard Grade and Higher exams this
year because of a computer problem

the SQA is in "meltdown"
because of software problems corrupting
information being sent from schools.

Mr Tuck acknowledges that, as a
consequence of introducing this new
system, many of the SQA's procedures
have been running late and this has created
very significant problems for staff in
schools.

* one pupil who, according to the SQA, was
down to sit 17 Highers, 16 of which were
not even provided by the school;

* a situation where pupils entered for
Higher art and design came back from the
SQA as sitting Gaelic;

* one school where 80 pupils entered for
maths exams and 25 for English were not
accounted for.
