ISO 125 - is that enough?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am a journalist and mostly have to take pictures in relatively dark places. So I think of buying a digicam with hot shoe for external flashlights. One favourite would be Fujifilm MX-2900 Zoom. But the CCD of this digicam only delivers a light sensitivity of ISO 125. Is that enough? Do I still have to think in terms of analogue photography? (With my old SLR camera I use ISO 400-films, aperture 5,6 and a strong external flashlight.) Or aren't these old categories of taking a good picture not valid any more?

In my opinion digicams are generally not good in low light. With a strong *external* flash you'll do fine though!

i hope they are calibrated for that..... that's an interesting thought that never crossed my mind to check.... i will have to whip out my digital camera and my 35mm camera and see how accurate they are... but from what i have been assuming, the ISO settings on a digital camera should correspond to the real thing.... else there is no point of using the ISO standard....
