Orange Blossom Special

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I am trying to find out as much information about the "Orange Blossom Special" running from Florida to NY during its life span.

My father-in-law is from Florida and as a boy remembers watching the OBS on its run in Florida. He is now 73 years young and is getting interested in model railroading.

I would like to build a model in HO or G Gauge for him. I need to know the colors scheme of the locomotives and passenger cars. If there are any prints that show what the E-4 Locomotive dimensions and layout would be very helpful. I have seen one picture of the E-4's in "Classic Trains" but still need more info.

Thank you to all who respond to this request.

Caboose Hobbies no longer has any copies. I tried to get one and they were sold out. They do still have copies of the addendum. I'd like to find a copy of this book for myself. I've been using a great search engine on the net called Bibliofind. It hepled me locate a copy of the Seaboard Motive Power book by Warren Calloway as well as another hard to find title for the Santa Fe, my other railroad interest. So far, I've had no luck with the OBS book, but I'm going to keep trying. I hope this is of some help.

I'm surprised to learn that Caboose Hobbies is still advertising our OBS book. This has the full history of the train, and if a copy is indeed still out there, I would jump on it. The Society sold out its last copy more than 3 years ago. We do however have in stock another OBS book, the OBS Addendum, which is 40 pages of additional photos and data not in the original OBS book. The Addendum is available through our catalog, on this web site, for $8.95 plus $3.00 s/h.
