Geordie Twilight Zone

Look North had a feature on Goma presenting the prize to the winners of the seminary competition for all the European trainee priests' football sides. Bizarre. Straight out of Monty Python. The Irish won it, but I'm not sure if they were from Craggy Island. Goma had no idea what he had got himself into and looked seriously like a man about to do a runner.

The fun continued with YBR taking the whole team to Beamish to show them what it was like when he was a lad. It was freezing today so when they got a chance to get inside in front of a coal fire, Solano and Gavilan were more or less sitting in the thing. He said it was vital that the team learn about the people and area they are representing and was launching a new scheme to boost Beamish's position in relation to the other 19 national museums. He had a bit of a twinkle about ushering in a special rate for pensioners.

It may all seem a bit cheesy, but I'd sooner have rafts of this sort of PR than all the sh*te we've had in recent seasons.

If it were anyone but wor Bobby doing it, it probably would be considered `cheesy`. What is wonderful, to me, is that you know he really means it, and that sort of sincerity is so rare nowadays. I can`t imagine that anyone working with him on a daily basis could fail to have some of this attitude rub off on them. It must be much harder for foreigners to develop any sense of `local pride`, but if anybody can influence them, Bobby sure as hell can! (:o)

I think it's great that Bobby is doing so much to get the players in touch with the region's people and heritage. Anything that instills pride in wearing the shirt and understanding of what the team means to the supporters can only be a good thing.

Sounds like poor little Diego must be exhausted and now frozen. No wonder we haven't had any letters from him in a few weeks.

I'm glad you all liked my little idea. It was a hard decision but one I felt I had to make. I've learned that over the years and there have been many of them that some decisions are easier than others. I felt it was important for the team to understand where the club has come from, and make no mistake, we have come a long long way. But the journey isn't over until the fat laddie sings and I was pleased to see some fat laddies at Beamish today. Not everybody was happy. Wee Hughie thought that we were going to the place where they brew beer and he was very disappointed. Big Derek was happy. He was like a kid in pidgeon shit. I couldn't understand what he was saying but he seemed very happy and I was very pleased that he seemed so pleased. I like my players to be pleased. Nick the Geek wasn't allowed to come because of his contraction problems but when we got back he said he really missed the trip and could he sign for me. You know, some folks have a funny way of showing their emotions but I suppose the Greeks must like to sing a lot. I'll probably give him something to sign tomorrow. I'm a bit busy this week and can't go for my pension so it will be good if he can go and collect it for me. He likes going walkabout so a walk up the road to Chester le Street will be right up his street. It's a big week for us this week. We have two games and we won the first one yesterday. All we need to do now is win another and we'll have won them both. That will be good both for me and for Newcastle United Football Club. We lost last time I went to Wembleydon but this time we are playing a better team and I don't think we will draw this one.
