oly d460 vs d450...opinions please

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

i know it isnt out yet but a couple differences between the two seems to be a different improved type of battery and iso's of 125, 250 and 500 instead of 160, 320 and 640. are these worth waiting for...and is the iso change an improvement? Also what if any difference would the new battery make compared to nimh batteries?

Andy,

Another, more major improvement on the D-460 is Olympus's realization that the D-450 was very confusing to operate. Although I've yet to see a site that includes a picture of the back of this camera, there are supposedly new buttons, easier controls, and new menu displays. Also, there are more compression modes. I've heard that the new batteries last 30 times longer than alkalines, in comparison to Nimh batteries I don't know what (if any) improvement there is.

Also, although stores like Best Buy have yet to carry the camera, online stores are announcing that they have them in stock as of yesterday. However, State Street Online hadn't announced the camera until yesterday I believe and thus it is just starting to show up in the marketplace.

Because there has been no discounts on the D-450, and the D-460 is the same price, I've held off my purchase on the D-450 until the D- 460 becomes available in retail stores.

Hope this helps.

I read somewhere else that the ISO ratings may have more to do with the ratings being more stringent rather than a less capable camera. In other words, the D460 has the same ISO performance as the D450 but the ratings are more realistic. You can always buy your own batteries (one set is not enough!) so that's not a big deal to me. I have a D450 so I'm also waiting to see how the menu system has improved.
