Panasonic Encoder with Sony Vaio desktop problems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

When trying to encode an MPEG file to vcd format using the trial version of Panasonic's encoder, I get, "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.", upon the START of the encoding process.

The following is the details from that failure. Can anyone give me some insite to this? I would sure like to see if this encoder is going to work for me. Do I need to have windows media player the default player?

i have recieved this message before. it could be one of two things. One: does whatever your trying to convert have sound, or is it a video only file?? i tired to convert a video only file and when it went to convert, it gave me the "illegal" message. Two: thier is something on your system the panasonic does not like.

I think it is obvious that it is something that the Panasonic encoder doesn't like. In fact, it's a file called, "sonymad2.dll" I was wondering if anyone had info on why this happens. The error happens right away when the encoding starts.
