Duncan, who are you

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I missed an earlier posting from you, being nostalgic about the Big Dipper in the bankie fields.

I don't knwo whether Buff spotted either. Buff used to run the Highwayman, and lived in the lower half of The Orchard. (Just had a thought, "Duncan Reed" sounds just like "George Best" to me). Where was home for you ?

I too once sprinted up Dunston Bank dodging bricks on a Friday night after a party, and in 1967 (!) I was no more than 100 yards away when a girl got murdered walking from the baths up to Whickham. I was interviewed by the police, but they didn't take it any further as they believed my alibi of only being seven and unable to lift a brick to hit someone with.

I now travel to the match on the train from Edinburgh with the guy who was my best man and lived in Dunston. Strange small world.

Blimey! I lived on Duckpool Lane for most of my childhood, a normal family nestled in amongst all the coppers. We were next door but one to the corner shop (on the corner of Duckpool Lane and Orchard Road).

My regular footy spot was climbing the fence of the Catholic school on the corner to practise my free kicks and avoid Jimmy the Taky.

I went to school (Front St Juniors, then Whickham Comp) with a girl who lived on the lower half of the Orchard; Anya Fairley...she was lovely but obviously not interested in me!

I also used to knock about with a kid who's dad ran the bay horse, but can't remember his name.

What about you?

Ian Ferguson 5 Cherrytree Drive Same schools, probably different era

When I went off to university at Lufbra I went to games night and met a guy who lived in the Midlands but had lived at 3 Orchard Road, the other end, up to being 10 or so.

The Fairley sisters were in the house diagonnaly down from us on Duckpool. Gail was in my class at school in the 6th form, I think they went to the ST Thomas More's in Blaydon. I have a wonderful topless photo of Gail, that I'm sure you'd be interested in. Well if you like topless 3 year olds !!

I really can't think who you are, and I knew everybody cos I did the pepers all over there for years. You must just be too young for me !!

From what you're describing you sound like no 4 Duckpool but that was a coppers house, 8 was the Hunters, with nerding son Neil. Staight behind our house were coppers for a while with two daughters (Wards maybe ?). Up from them was the ancient couple, then the Reeds !!!! My God I got there. But that was an older generation, with a red-haired daughter older than me (Irene ?) is that your mother ?. My mam and dad are still there although my sister Marion has since decided to live in Portugal having toured the world dancing.

Eeeeeeh small world

Oh yes, I'm also old enough to remember the catholic school not being there, and not having to worry about getting caught playing football

Mac

We were at 2 Duckpool; next door at 4 was (still is) the Chapmans; now retired coppers. Maybe the Fairleys moved up the road to the Orchard; many's a summer evening I spent idly flirting (there were no other thoughts in my mind at all) with Anya out of her bedroom window which back onto the adventure playground at the Catholic school.

We moved into Duckpool Lane in 79, and were there til 88 when we moved to Yorkshire coz of my Dad's work.

As for Cherrytree Drive; did you know the Turnbull's? Titch was a top mate of my brothers, and around the corner the Hamptons, with Hammy being my best mate at school.

Who else? The Palmer in the middle of Orchard Road, and the am azing TV repair man known only to us as Tony the Telly!
