Story Filed: Friday, March 31, 2000 4:37 AM EST

KIEV, March 31 (Itar-Tass) - The possibility of staging a subversive act by means of computer network at the Chernobyl nuclear power station has been ruled out by Chief of the Chernobyl station information department Oleg Goloskokov on Friday. He said that the technological and information system of the Chernobyl nuclear power station is not connected with any computers outside the station.

The statement came in the wake of reports that the "Aum Shinri Kyo" sect had allegedly possessed information about nuclear facilities abroad, including in Russia and Ukraine, and extensive information about a system of emergency shutdown of the Chernobyl nuclear station which Japan allegedly intended to turn over to Ukraine. The sect might have used this information for purposes of staging a subversive acts in Chernobyl, reports alleged.

The Japanese side "has not informed us that Aum Shinri Kyo was established to have possessed information about our station. The Chernobyl nuclear power station has been provided with a reliable security system which meets world standards," Goloskokov said.
