Do you think that just because you "found" this that it's news? Marianne Michaels has been writing a book on the entire Y2K experience. What you've posted is Chapter 2 of that effort. Chapter 4 was recently posted to her TP Chronicles site.

I think that her effort to represent the fear and uncertainty surrounding the whole "what will happen?" question before the rollover is a fine endeavor. It offers, through the use of humor and various "pundits" opinions, a pretty concise record for us to study. Hopefully, we can learn from it and begin to understand the polarizing force the issue had.
