Price depends on whether your looking for "pet" quality or "show" quality. It's common to pay about $450 for a pet quality kitten. Show quality would be a few hundred dollars higher. You can buy adults, such as retired breeders, that are gorgeous for as little as $100 or $150. Just make sure that you buy your MC from a responsible breeder.

If your not looking for one to breed or for show quality I would let a breeder know you are looking and dont care if they are purr'fect. I recieved one from a breeder that they could not breed due to the fact that he only was born with one eye.(hence the name Jack) He is the best, most handsome lil' man in the world and I wouldnt trade him for anything. They are always looking for good homes for the fellers that are not "show quality" or that they cant breed. Good Luck!

I purchased my male silver mactabby kitten for $400, he is show quality but not breeder quality. Meaning his confirmation is not enough to breed but IS good enough to compete in cat shows. He must be neuter by 8 months of age (appointment is next week!), which would be spelled out in the sales contract if you purchase from a breeder. At the same time, I also purchase a gorgous 7 year old black smoke female that was too old for breeding, for $100.

There is a list of Retired Maine Coon cats that you can subscribe to that will e-mail you new listings at onelist.com. Or, click on the "available cats and kittens" link at MCBFA home page. Neither of these listings give prices, but you could locate a breeder close to you.

Sorry to be so long winded, hope this helps answer your question!

Me again! The URL for the retired cats is: http://www.onelist.com/group/retired-friends

Even if you don't buy there, it's fun to puruse.

The price of a Maine Coon kitten is very dependant on the are you live in and varies from breeder to breeder. A pet quality kitten can average between $500-$800 in the Northeast. The most important things are to look for a reputable breeder. If a breeder belongs to the MCBFA they are supposed to adhere to certain guidelines. Ask how the kittens are raise, how many vaccinations they receive, are they tested or are parent,s tested for FIV and FELV. Most reputable breeders may ask you for references and will also provide you with references. Kittens should not be released to their new owners before 12 weeks and many breeders will not let you view kittens before they have had their second vaccination. I hope this is helpful.
