TMX in edwal's ultra-black

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

there's been recent discussion about TMX developed in XTOL, with many people disappointed in the results. someone recently posted to the "film recommendations" forum on photo.net about developing this film in edwal's ultra-black paper developer, which this individual claims yields extremely sharp negatives with nice tonal latitude. he claims helmut newton uses a similar technique.

has anyone else used this technique? i've heard of developing film in dektol in order to get huge grain but never in ultra-black for sharpness.

the post to which i am referring can be read all the way at the bottom of this very long page: http://www.photo.net/photo/film.html
