Can you explain more about what catagories are and how they work and what they are good for, etc. I and maybe tom and ken don't have your experience with fora and how to best structure them at the outset, or for that matter what the potential in greenspuns' programs really is.

Ah, okay.If you look at the top level page youll currently see...
Older Messages (by category)
Uncategorized
If there were categories activated/set then those would be listed in addition to Uncategorized. Every time someone Asks A Question (i.e. creates/posts a new thread) they would have the opportunity to use the toggle Category [ ] (this helps build the FAQ archives).
Threads newly posted, are still viewable for 7 days at the top level and as New Questions and each answer creates an updated list under New Answers. In addition, you could more easily locate an older thread, by its archived category (since as yet Philip Greenspun hasnt activated a search engine).
Does that help?
For reference, look at the categories on the old TimeBomb forum...

Now...
Some initial suggestions for MetaConversations are:
Admin/Moderator Q&A
Consciousness
Definitions for MetaConversations
Free Will
Humor/Cosmic Jokes
Metaphysics
Religion/Spirituality
More?

Hello Diane,Way back when over on "Just Posting - Do all the questions go in the uncategorized category?" there were a few suggestions as well for categories.
Dave said: "Some catagories I might suggest;
Whats in Astra?
phenomenology of prayer
electricity
water
heat/power"
and I added a category entitled "Languaging"
Hope this helps. Is it hard to add additional categories later, or can we start with this kernel and grow from there?
Cheers,
