Manager of the Year - poll number 1

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Teletext are running a vote for 'Manager of the Season'. You can vote here: Teletext
When I voted Bobby was on 19% with Taggart also on 19% and O'Leary on 20.
Monkey's heed was on 10% so perhaps the children from RTG haven't picked up on this one yet.
I'm not bothered about the player of the year, but YBR has to win this one.

Can we only vote once??

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Yeah, just tried to vote 4 times but it wouldn't let me. Robson's now on 21% but ther's only been 89 votes

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Uncle Bob`s on 24% now - I`ve just had my four pennyworth!

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

25% now! :o)

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Up to 26% - seems to go up 1% with every vote! Maybe that's 'cos there's only just over 100 people voted!!

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

bobby now on 26% get your vote in !!!!

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

It seems that if you're going through a proxy server and close down the browser after each vote then re-start it that you can vote many times ;))

Come on people....let's get a couple of hundred votes for Bobby on there to put the others off!!

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

You can usually manage multiple-voting on these things by deleting the cookie that tells the website you've been there before. Bloody timeconsuming and childish and a complete misuse of time and resources, but who cares? This is far more important than that letter you were going to write.

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Delete your cookies and you can vote again :)

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Bugger....

Doesn't work any longer, I reckon it was cos I used two seperate browsers to vote....

I'm gonna try and make a recording using a tool that I have here and then try and hit it a couple of hundred times :))

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

I tried deleting the cookie, cleared my cache, and closed then re-opened the browser...and it still won't let me vote again. :-P

Anyway Bobby's at 27% now

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

That thing's harsh! When you've voted you have to shut down Internet Explorer, open Windows Explorer, delete the teletext cookie from your Windos file and then log back into Internet Explorer to vote again.

No good using the back and forwards buttons, it's wide awake. Time consuming, but it works!

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

If you Disable Cookies and copy the original URL http://www.teletext.co.uk/sport/

You can then vote, paste the url into the url dialog, press enter and vote again....reloading doesn't seem to work. This method seems quicker than deleting the cookies :))

he he he, I don't know what it is with my computer but I just have to delete my cookie and click again. YBR's on 35%

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

39% ..... come on wor Bobby

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

I've just voted about a dozen times, up to 40 % now. i think that will keep him going. I'll have another go tomorrow if anyone catches up. Only problem being I had to write all my details for here again as I'd deleted all my cookies.

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

I've just seen on the orrificial site that Robson's won as many games at Newcastle as Gullit did. Robson's won 18 in 36 games whereas Gullit won the same in 52 games.
I knew he'd been good but I hadn't realised how good. What a remarkable chngearound the man has had.

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Hmph...turned off cookies, and the bugger is still managing to deposit them. Anyway....43%!!

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Wor Bobby`s at 45% now !!!!;o)

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Heh...dummy me...unchecking cookies in the wrong place...problem sorted..voting away! Now if I could just figure out how to drag this computer into the stupid meeting I have in an hour, it would be far more productive use of my time. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

C'Mon you lot who havent voted......Bobbys slipped to 33% (out of 484 votes)!!!

Taggarts on 12%, Houlliers on 19%, Olearys on 16% and ho ho ho ho ho, Monkey is on 6%....oh dear!!!

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Erm, for those of us who speak English; could someone explain how to vote more than once, step by step?

-- Anonymous, March 29, 2000

Looks like Dancing Dave's passed this info onto 'pool. Robson going down and Houllier steaming up!

Get voting!

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Yeah... it's taking 12 votes to get Bobby up by 1% and should only take 8..... someone is actively voting for Hooligan

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Howay Lads..... GH 30% BR 32%

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Sigh....

On the good ole bbs communicata we could've posted this as urgent and kept getting it back to the top until everyone joined in to help....don't suppose noticed on this board that Bobby was diving whilst GH was rising...I certainly didn't notice until it was over 40%-26% in favour of GH :((

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

I find it a bit unsettling that you have a list of great managers (and Payter Reid) and then have "Ron Atkinson" underneath.

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Damn! GH is on 40% and Bobby is down to 26%. Please can somebody give me a step by step guide for Netscape on how to disable cookies or whatever so I can multi-vote!

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Hmmm.....somehow my cookie file has disappeared, though cookies exist somewhere on my box because I'm here...and keep getting the "you've already voted" message on teletext. Where does a cookie file go to hide on a win95 box(I've done numerous searches of the hard drive using "cookie" and "cookies")

All this cookie talk...mmmmm, I'm hungry! ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Try your "Temporary Internet Files" folder in "Windows". They hide the little skedangaz in there as well.

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Bliddy machine won't let me delete the temp files! :-((

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Why the crafty little buggas! I emptied that directory, Softie..and can now vote away. Definitely need reinforcements as the percentages won't budge. Steph, for Netscape, empty out the directory Softie mentioned. Also do a file search to see if there's any cookie files hidden around the place. Mine was under the /netscape directory yesterday.
Then on your netscape browser: Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced
When you click on Advanced, there should be a menu of choices on the right for cookies. Click on disable all cookies. And use Gav's suggestion from yesterday...type (or copy and paste) the teletext addy in each time to get a fresh screen. Happy voting!

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

By simply not accepting any of the 'cookies' offered, I've been able to add another 20 or so votes for YBR. Unfortunately, that selfless act of mega 'net paging moved him from 24% to 25%!!

The positive part was that it dropped Houllier from 42% all the way down to 41% - Yesss! Could this perhaps be God's way of telling me I've got too much time on my hands??

If we're going to see BR win this bitch we've got some serious work to do - I reckon Houllier's got about 240 more votes right now!

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Another 30 or so votes lodged - on behalf of various members of my family, of course!

Bloody hell - got BR up to 27% and Gerry down to 40%!!

HELP.

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Boo hoo!

I've broken my cookies. After sterlng effort last night to boost YBR's total, I have switched cookied back on today but seem to have lost the info for my identity on this BBS.

Can anybody help fix my broken cookies?

-- Anonymous, March 30, 2000

Screacher, ask a new question and it will give you the option to set a persistent cookie when you post.

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

Bobby was back on 25 and GH was back on 42 this morning...

I managed to get it back to YBR27 and GH 40 in about 20 mins but had to give up to do work...

We need a concerted effort here!!

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

Went in to have another whack at getting BR up there. However, he's now down to 18%, with Gerry up to 59%!!!

By my reckoning, GH now has about 1,600 votes to BR's 500. Liverpool must have a number of real sad web b@st@rds, cos' that's a lot of to-ing 'n fro-ing - more than I can deal with.

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

How about posting the link on all the bbs's we know, including the official one. I bet that's what Pool did.

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

or just knock up a script that keeps polling away in the backgound!

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

That's too clever for me Geordie, but if you know how to do it - go for it! :o)))

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

Just been on Teletext to cast another wedge of votes for BR. With over 4,000 votes cast, BR's down to only 12% with 512 votes. That's only 26 more than 6 hours ago, and I've just cast 20 of those!

GH is still at 62%, but has attracted almost another 1,000 votes this afternoon. The manurers have been active today and moved Taggart into second place at 16%.

I've given up through lack of support.

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

Just goes to show that Mags have lives away from our computers!

Allegedly. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2000

Final Poll Results. The winner was....

...Gerrard Houllier, with 61% of the 6,212 votes cast!

The top four were as follows:

  1. Houllier -- 61%
  2. Taggart -- 20%
  3. BR -- 9%
  4. O'Leary -- 5%

Oh yes I forgot, Mr. M. Heed - "nil points!"
