PAL TO NTSC CONERSION PROBLEMS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Dear friends, When i convert a dvd movie from 720x756 pal (25 fps) to 720x480(29.9 fps) i see some little pauses (like frame drops) in the final mpg. how can i solve this problem??? (I use flask+panasonic encoder) I need to convert my pal films because my pioneer dvd 626D don't let me display a film encoded in PAL with more than 1674 bits/video. But it works ok with 1800 and more in NTSC 720x480 (what a strange player???) I know that it's not a dvd player problem because this pauses appear in windows mpg players too. It seems a bad conversion. Please help me you are my only hope.

hte problem is that PAL and NTSC are two different video-codes. PAL625 and NTSC525. taht means if NTSC shows 5 frames in a row, PAL can show 6 in the same time...so teh poroblem if you convert from PAL to NTSC or the other way, is that some frames are missing because there is no frame in the aexact time in the other videosignal...that's why you get these "blank frames"

that's why you can buy emennsive expensive video-signal covnerters (good ones start at $25.000, and they stil have mistakes)
