Any budding Freuds wants to take a stab at this one?

Ok, it's 1:30am and I just woke up from the same stupid dream and I can't sleep. Wish I didn't have to work tomorrow...

I have been having this dream in which I have to call 911 for some reason (it changes almost every dream, so I guess that isn't important). Every time I call, it's busy. Weird.

Anybody have any clue what it might be about?

Katrina Marie, I constantly dream about my inability of correctly dialing a phone number. I posted the full story on another thread. Since then, I have received a few emails telling me that trouble with phones in dreams may signify communication problems with other people around you. I have no idea if this is true, but maybe it will help.

Have you told something important to someone recently, or have something important to tell, but have either been dismissed as unimportant, or ignored altogether? Maybe your dream is your way of telling yourself that you should persist in delivering whatever message you intended to give.

KM-

Since you are the one dialing the 911 emergency number, my take on this is not communication but someone else's emergency. Is there someone you are close to that seems to have some real or imagined disaster happening? Do you have a hard time remaining uninvolved when the disaster or emergency is not yours?

It seems to me that calling an emergency number for help and finding the number busy is a sign that maybe you or someone else needs to handle a situation solo.

Just my two cents worth....

Just wanted to point out that in many major metropolitan areas it's not that unusual to get a busy signal when you dial 911... or at least a recording stating that all operators are busy...

Maybe you've been thinking of moving? ;-)

As someone has already pointed out, phones are for communication. You desperately want to communicate with someone but are worried they will be (or already are) too busy, or otherwise unavailable.

Thanks for the answers! A new twist has been put on the dream now...

I remembered after I woke up this time that not only is it busy, but sometimes there is someone else on the phone and they won't get off so that I can make the call. It just keeps getting weirder.

The communication thing seems logical, but I can't for the life of me think of anyone I have a dire need to communicate with. Oh well, it might just be a dream too. :)

It's never just a dream, Katrina Marie. You're taking 'communicate' too literally. It should be taken in a broader sense. Think 'connect', instead.

There is somebody in your life you feel a strong desire to connect with, but they are currently connecting with somebody else.

Au contraire, Dave Van. Sometimes it *is* just a dream. Freud once had a dream wherein someone asked him "What do you get when you cross an owl and a train? A choo-hoo-choo-train." Or at least that's what my Psychology 101 teacher claimed.

On the other hand, this particular dream, being that it's recurring, definitely seems to be trying to tell you something, Katrina Marie.

Weird, I thought I was the only one who had wacko dreams about calling 911 and the line being busy. Or the phone not working. Or somone refusing to get off it so I can try to make the call. I guess not!

So, Beth, so your dream is that classic horror genre where the audience is afraid for the serial killer?

I recently traded some words with a couple of other people about how I'm at the point where I'm making some people uncomfortable with anything I have to say, and A) they give my words way more power than they should, and B) I'm discovering I don't particularly enjoy that kind of power. Maybe you're discovering something similar meta-wise with your serial killer hog-tying dream (especially considering that you used your computer line to dial out).

Or maybe I'm just concerned because I've invited the entire internet to my house, and I've realized that that will probably involve giving out my address.

I guess I'd better buy a hatchet, just in case.

We already know where you live. It's not like we're casing your joint for the first time.

I wish I could have a nice, coherent and empowering dream about beating the crap out of a stalker or an anorexic supermodel (well, in my case, I guess I'd like to beat up a rich commodities trader). My dreams, alas, are almost always about the frustration of life. Now that I've read this thread, I am sure that I'll have the "911 is busy" dream for myself. I could use a nice dream about beating the living daylights out of something today -- it's been a long month.

My all-time favorite dream was that I was carrying a little squirrel around in my hands and petting it while calling it outrageous pet names like "my little oodgie-boodgie pudgy bear." I woke up just after saying that in my dream, laughing out loud.
