We don't have to send warships to the area. All we have to do is sell Taiwan the anti-missile defense equipment it needs to be on par with the Chinese.

Oh i see, we approve the transfer by congress, order and have the systems made, ship em over there, install them and train the Tiawanease army to use them. All this in the few weeks that it will take china to fully set up its new missle system.YEAH RIGHT. They now have the advantage to attack, they have said they will. Now we will have to wait and see if they do or dont.

Nearest significant USN assets: the U.S.S. Eisenhower and other 6th Fleet resources are in the Mediterranean, while the Stennis and its support are visiting Bahrain. Establishing a presence near Taiwan would take a bit of doing and probably raise tensions even more. Better right now to support the new government in Taipei in a more quiet and covert manner, as Jim Cooke suggests.

Umm, I'll confess I have lost track of the assetts used for recent "training" manouvers in the So. China Sea but where are THEY?

Not sure, Joss. Here's the page I use to check on deployment: Statu s of the Navy

I just reviewed the list and was reminded that the Kitty Hawk is homeported in Japan, so she's probably the ship of choice should we decide to have a show of force.

Are you referring to the South China Sea exercises we held late last summer? If so, that was the Kitty Hawk and the Constellation, which are now back in Japan and here in San Diego respectively.

Boo:

Remember the Gulf War and how fast we were able to establish Patriot missile batteries in Israel? It can be done very quickly given the political will to do so.

Also, remember how China was going to attack Taiwan in "hours" after the election? All those planes flying to Taiwan? You never learn, do you?

Boo:

The last post I saw from you was a long and somewhat incomprehensible melange that, frankly, I could barely understand. You said you were going to write another answer when you had more time and it would be more readable. Did you post this and I missed it?

I pointed out that we could establish anti missile defenses quickly and gave you proof that we had already done so in the past. You say these would work against scuds but not the "advanced" Russian missiles the Chinese allegedly have. What evidence do you have for this statement?

You are being taken in by statements from China without having done any research on the other side of the question. You post items that agree with what I see as your apocalyptic view of the world. I've posted items that I think refute them. That's called the exchange of ideas. If this bothers you then maybe you shouldn't post on the Net.
