There's a reference to a similar problem on my web page where the install of an ATI multimedia Center software changes the default player to the Cinemaster player (for their DVD engine) However after it does this, people find that their EZCD Video creator will no longer work as it wants to see the standard Windows Media player and not what the ATI program set as the system default (Cinemaster?) Here's what you can do to fix it.

Open up your SYSTEM.INI file with Sysedit. Look for a line that says MpegVideo=xxxx The xxxx will be MciCinem.drv if you had just installed the ATI MMC. It may be something else as a result of some other program. Change it to the following:

MpegVideo=mciqtz.drv

The "mciqtz.drv" should make everything work fine again.

Keep in mind, when installing some multimedia applications, various defaults may or may not be changed which will affect other programs. It's a complicated Microsoft world out there. For example, the popular Nero CD burner program creates all kinds of problems when it's installed into a system that has Adaptec's "Direct CD" packet writing software. Nero however has a work around available as a "boot option" to run either software but not the two at the same time. Another program that can "change" things is the installation of certain Xing encoders and players.
