shutter delay

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I need a 2+Mpixel camera for motorcycle racing. The most important feature is very short and consistent time between pressing the shutter button and having the shutter go. Second most important is 200mm+ equivalent telephoto without using digital zoom.

Help! What do I want? The Nikon 990, Casio QV-300EX, and Oly C-3030 look great, but have long shutter delays.

This page has software and some information on cameras & shutter delays. I found it interesting and clever.

Aloha! Remember that those 1-2 second delays are ONLY when you do not prefocus by either pushing in the shutter button half way or manual focusing! Both the Casio and the Nikon, and probably the Oly too, have shutter delays of only around 1/5 second when prefocused. Not too bad.
