Silverfast - is it worth it ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm finally going to take the plunge with the Nikon SuperCoolscan LS2000 filmscanner,

a couple of questions

1-What does Silverfast give you that Nikonscan 2 & Photoshop don't ?

2-Is it worth paying the extra #100.00 to get the version with SilverFast (Given that the LS2000 version of Silverfast retails at #500, it will be an expensive mistake if i later find that i do in fact need it)

thanks

Martin

Answers

Martin,

I don't recall if I have answered your question specifically before on another forum, but certainly one very similar. If it was your query then my apologies for repeating myself .

1. Silverfast allows you to make additional adjustments to an image in the scanners high bit mode. Nikonscan has many useful features, but be assured yuo are comparing a mini with a rolls royce (I assume ## mewans UK based ).

2. Yes it most certainly is worth apyin the extra money. You will also be able to gain access to free bug fixes and updates from LaserSofts web site. Actually Silverfast retails at approx #360 UK or $550 US

If you are still unsure as to what SilverFast has to offer, then I suggest you read my review of same at http://welcome.to/computerdarkroom
