I am dying to purchase a Maine Coon but I have cat allergies. My brother has a Maine Coon and I don't seem to be allergic to it. I'd like to know if there is anyone out there who owns a Maine Coon and has cat allergies, and how they are tolerating it. Thanks !!

My husband was tested for allergies and he did show to be allergic to cats. Well, we have three of them, one is a Maine Coon, who jumps up on his lap and sleeps (all 23lbs of him!) and my husband is fine. Every individual is different. He tolerates all of our cats just fine. If his allergies do act up, he just takes a Clairton!

I have one Maine Coon, Fingle & one moggie, my husbands allergy & asthma was worse for the first few weeks when we got Fingle however, it settled down after a few weeks so my advice is if your allergy isn't too bad it may be worth persevering for a while for all the pleasure that you will have with your new cat.
