I attempted to answer this question directly to the sender but the e- mail came back undelivered. I think the name should be Bishop Wesley John Gaines--the 16th Bishop- - who was actually from Washington, GA and was a pastor of Big Bethel AMEC in Atlanta. He might also have been one of the founders of Saint James AMEC in Columbus. However, I am not certain of this fact. Foremost among his accomplishments was the fact that he was a co- founder of Morris Brown College. He was also the author of "The History of African Methodism in the South", "The Negro and the White Man", and "The Christian Ministry". He is buried at historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta where many prominent Georgians of diverse ethnic backgrounds are buried and his grave is marked. Additional information might be found on the Morris Brown College Web site and others sources of history about the college. His books are also in the Atlanta-Fulton Research Library on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta. However, acess is limited.
