Newcastle Pub puzzle - non footy

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

OK here's a good puzzle for all you lads and lasses out there who think they know a good neet doon the toon when they step over one in the street.

This does has a faintly serious side to it, I have a bunch of non-Chewsee supporting southerners that need carting roond Newcastle for a Saturday night on, you guessed it, the night before the semi. So where would you take 'em? (Nee answers like off the pier eh, it's not up the garden path either.) Thez about 17 of too.

probably a good idea to avoid the Bigg Market.

I would suggest the area around Percy Street....Bar Oz etc.....it is pretty much 'student land' and therefore pretty cosmopolitan.

A 'Southern accent' in the Bigg Market that night is likely to bring a really short sharp retort.

Start in the Percy Arms, along to the Three Bulls Heads, doon to the Half Moon in the Bigg Market, then Vivs, stagger to the Bridge (canny few places to puke up alang the way). Cannot remember owt after that. Warning : things may be a little different now.

aye thanks lads, I had thought about the Bigg market quite a lot and what sort of reception might be on, thought that maybe if we were there before say eight thirty they could say they'd been and it would be just about deserted!! Quayside might be the target though.

if they are coming on the train, the 'Head of Steam' opposite the station could be a good starting point - fairly cosmopolitan & decent beer.

If you are heading down the Quayside 'Chase' where the footballers go (allegedly), but is packed & expensive & fizzy-lagerish. The Crown Poasada - decent beer but v.packed at weekends and real-aleish.

A lot of people (particularly females) have also recommended the 'Baja Beach Club (?)' to me on the Gateshead side just across the swing bridge - a pub with nightclub after. Although, as I've not been in, this may just be a new version of 'go jump off Tynemouth Pier'.

Byker/the Ouseburn is also good - The Free Trade, The Cluny, The Tyne, The Ship and The Fighting Cocks - a bit quieter & out of the Town Centre, but a good mix of pubs/people/beer. Pubs might be a bt small for 17 of you.

The Quayside is a must really, it is very cosmopolitan now, your just as likely to bump into someone from Egypt as you are Walker. Drawback is the queues, once your in it is chocka block. The BAJA BEACH is far superior to Julies for a nightclub (queueing starts about 10.15pm).

ANY sort of beach would be far superior to Julies, even after they've sharpened the pebbles, dumped a couple of tons of raw sewage and surrounded you with g-string wearing Jormans.

Ah but I miss it so .......
