A note on my "SeeInsideForever" email address...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : People Photography : One Thread

For some reason I just decided to log into my "SeeInsideForever" address, and there were the expected "Response to..." posts, but there were also questions/responses which some posters emailed to me personally (which is fine of course...). EXCEPT:

I don't use this address except as a 'dummy' address. I never check it, so if anyone is interested in emailing me in regards to, well, anything, please use my "shawngibson_prophoto@yahoo.com" address, otherwise your email is SURE to go unread, and unreplied to.

Sorry for the confusion, and I'm sorry to those who have emailed me so far at that address and been unread and unreplied to. There are hundreds of emails there...

Shawn,

I don't understand the purpose of having a "dummy address." Why spend the money to do that. What's the benefit or advantage? Seriously, I'm interested in knowing the reasons.

Well, it's free actually (yahoo accounts are free for everyone...). And I can't use my 'prophoto' address here because it's listed as the administrative address for PPF, and as such all my posts with that address go to the top of the page, something Phil never fixed...or I never figured out how to fix myself...or something...

Why use a dummy? For the same reason, I often sign myself Alan.Gibson2@technologist.com. It is redirected, so mail sent there, or to Alan.Gibson@technologist.com, all get to me at Alan@snibgo.com.
