Former Scottish international striker Frank McAvennie has been arrested in connection with a #110,000 drugs raid.

The former Celtic and West Ham player and another man were held on Thursday in Newcastle upon Tyne's Bigg Market by officers from the National Crime Squad's Tyneside branch.

NCS officers said they seized five kilos of amphetamines, 5,000 ecstasy tablets and a small quantity of cocaine. The estimated street value is #110,000.

The spokeswoman said: "We are questioning two men, both aged 40, and from Gateshead, about an alleged conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs throughout the UK."

The 41-year-old man was arrested at Glasgow's Queen Street Station where the amphetamines and ecstasy were seized. He has been charged with drugs offences.

Around #800 cash and a small quantity of cocaine was recovered in the car in the Bigg Market, a busy city centre pub area, police said.

There's one hell of a tawdry story running beneath this little article, I'll warrant. I for one would love to hear the whole of it (once the News of the Screws get hold of it).

Watch this space folks ........

Can't buy NOTW out of principle. Dreadful rag, never bought since the H&S muck raking sting - Cannot forgive a 'newspaper' for that, the second week was tawdry to say the least and made the club a laughing stock - I don't condone the actions of the sleazy pair, but the means of entrapment was scandalous to the point where if they do that to H&S they'll do it to people who can't fight back. It's disgusting, degrading and rankles me to the point where I start ranting incoherently about nothing in particular.........

Sorry lads, off again....DON'T BUY IT, IT'S A DISGRACE..... No not the needle...arrggh! but nurse.....

Hey Tynedale.....I thought you ranted incoherently about nothing in particular as a matter of course. That's what Lady T told us anyway.
