COLOMBO, March 24 (Reuters) - A small Sri Lankan cargo plane carrying a crew of seven crashed in bad weather Friday as it was approaching Sri Lanka's only international airport to land, airport officials said.

The aircraft was coming from Bangkok and was about to land as heavy rains swept the area around the airport at Katunayake, some 21 kilometers north of the capital Colombo, officials here said.

Three of the crew members of the two engine AN-12 aircraft were rescued and a search was on to trace the others.
